Reference Information Bulletin--February 2007

Business Resources

The TWU Libraries have upgraded or added some new business resources. Business Source Complete and Emerald Management Xtra are upgrades from previous databases, while CCH Accounting Research Manager, International Financial Statistics, and World Data Analyst from Encyclopædia Britannica Online are new resources. We have also added electronic journals from the American Accounting Association.

Business Source Complete is the world's definitive scholarly business database, providing the ultimate collection of bibliographic and full text content. It contains full text journals in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. The database also includes indexing and abstracts for important scholarly business journals as well as non-journal content that includes financial data, books, monographs, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses and more. Enhanced Business Searching Interface provides an easy way to both browse and search for country economic data, company profiles, industry information, and market research in the Business Source Complete database.

Emerald Management Xtra is the world's largest, most comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed management articles and resources for researchers, librarians, teachers, students and deans in the management field. Subject areas include business and management, library and engineering, and education. It is focused on niche management disciplines including strategy, change management, and international marketing. In addition to full text journal articles, it provides access to wide variety of other extras such as special sections focused toward students (study skills, student life and careers), researchers (research community profile), teaching faculty (teaching schemes, case studies, lecture presentations), business school deans and directors (resources, discussions, forums), authors (call for papers), conferences, and others (librarians, managers, etc.)

CCH Accounting Research Manager (ARM) is the most timely and comprehensive online database of expert written analytical accounting, auditing, governmental and SEC information as well as primary source data. ARM is updated five times daily, making it the most current, complete, and objective research source for financial reporting.

International Financial Statistics (IFS) is the International Monetary Fund’s principal statistical publication, and is the standard source for all aspects of international and domestic finance. It reports, for most countries, time series data on exchange rates, balance of payments, international liquidity, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government accounts, national accounts and population. The IFS data are drawn from a variety of sources including government departments, national accounts, central banks, the UN, Eurostat, the International Labour Organization and private financial institutions.

World Data Analyst from Encyclopædia Britannica Online combines detailed statistics with powerful tools for analysis and display. This resource features a collection of in-depth information about the countries of the world and allows you to create interesting and informative comparative charts and tables. This includes both recent and historical statistical figures.

American Accounting Association (AAA). Full-text coverage of 12 of the association's premier, scholarly journals from the year 2000 forward have been added to the TWU Libraries holdings. Some of the titles include: Accounting and the Public Interest, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Information Systems, and Teaching Notes for both Issues in Accounting Education and Journal of Information Systems. These journals support the AAA's mission to foster worldwide excellence in the creation, dissemination, and application of accounting knowledge and skills. Easy and Convenient Book Renewals

Books and most other library materials can be renewed from the convenience of your home or office through the TWU Online Catalog or through the Telephone Renewal System.

To Renew through the TWU Online Catalog:

  1. Click on "My Account" link. This link is located at the top of every library web page. It is next to the catalog search box on the right-hand side, near the top of the page.
  2. Enter your Barcode Number (the first 5- or 6-digit number on your TWU ID plus a 1) or your social security number (without dashes) and your Last Name.
  3. Click on the "Login" button.
  4. Click on the box beside each item that you wish to renew.
  5. Click on "Renew Items." [The "Renew Status" box should now have your New Due Date listed]
  6. Click "Logout" in the bar at the top of the online catalog.

To Renew through the Telephone Renewal System:

Call (940) 898-3786 in Denton or (214) 689-6602 in Dallas. Follow the instructions and the prompts.

Renewals are available if the items are not on Hold, on Recall, or on Reserve. Interlibrary Loan ( ILL ) materials cannot be renewed online or through the Telephone Renewal System. You will NOT be notified of your new due dates when you renew by phone. Please contact Circulation Staff if you should experience any problems.

Library Databases – Spring 2007 Update

The TWU Libraries provide access to 110+ databases covering a wide range of subject areas and disciplines. These databases help students and faculty locate journal articles, books and book chapters, dissertations and theses, government reports, papers presented at conferences, and other materials needed to complete research projects and class assignments.

Last semester several databases were added, updated, or purchased from different vendors.


Online Sheet Music is now available through ebrary. Online Sheet Music provides 9,000 sheet music titles for bands, orchestras, instrumentalists and vocalists of all levels. This database includes classical titles from composers including Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart, Scarlatti, Schubert and Tchaikovsky. A direct link to Online Sheet Music has been added to our A-Z lists, and it may also be accessed from our ebrary link by clicking on the Sheet Music tab at the top of the page.

Dallas Morning News Historical Archive (1885-1977) is a unique genealogical and historical collection featuring digital facsimiles of newspaper issues that document major events in Texas. Available from NewsBank, this archive is a valuable resource for genealogical research, providing obituaries, marriage and birth announcements, biographical sketches and much more. The text is fully searchable from cover to cover, and researchers can browse by date and topic, or view PDFs of full pages or individual articles, photos, graphics, maps, political cartoons, editorials, obituaries, display and classified advertisements, and recipes. A link to the archive has been added to our A-Z database lists and a link has also been added to the Dallas Morning News record in the TWU Online Catalog.

Biological Sciences has been added to TWU’s JSTOR holdings. As with all JSTOR titles, these digitized editions date from the journal’s earliest date to 3-5 years ago. Each year another year’s volume is added to the collection. The Biological Sciences Collection will include at least one hundred titles when it is completed in 2007. This collection brings together the twenty-nine journals available in our existing Ecology & Botany Collection with more than seventy titles new to JSTOR. Coverage in this collection offers greater depth in fields such as biodiversity, conservation, paleontology, and plant science, in addition to introducing new areas such as cell biology and zoology.

RCLweb (Resources for College Libraries) is a core list of books for college libraries and features 65,000 titles (including both books and electronic resources) in 58 curriculum-specific subject areas. Titles have been selected for academic libraries by more than 300 subject specialists and bibliographers. A direct link to RCLweb has been added to our A–Z list.

Education Research Complete, the online resource for education research, offers the world's largest and most complete collection of full text education journals. It is a bibliographic and full text database covering scholarly research and information relating to all areas of education. Topics covered include all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. A direct link to Education Research Complete has been added to our A–Z list.

International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with Full Text contains all of the content available in International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance as well as full text for more than 100 titles, including Canadian Theatre Review, Dance Chronicle, Dance Teacher, Modern Drama, PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art, Research in Dance Education, Research in Drama Education, Studies in Theatre and Performance, TDR: The Drama Review, Theater, and many more. Additional full text available includes more than 100 books & monographs such as Art and the Performance of Memory, Avant Garde Theatre, British Realist Theatre, Community Theatre, History of European Drama and Theatre, Learning Through Theatre, Opera, Performance Theory, Popular Theatres of Nineteenth Century France, Shakespeare, Theory and Performance, Sourcebook on Feminist Theatre and Performance, Theatre and the World, Twentieth-Century Actor Training, Who's Who in Contemporary World Theatre, World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theatre and many more. Publications on the Status of Women is an archive of primary materials documenting the history of changes in women’s lives in the U.S., including data and statistics, personal testimony, chronologies, milestones, biographies, laws and legal challenges, training instruction, self-help guides, and more. While specific to women, the content is topically broad, supporting research in history, sociology, psychology, and related areas. Affirmative action, crime and violence, education, economics, housing, childcare, health services, language, jobs, maternity leave, politics, law, disability, minority rights, and the image of women, and other subjects are covered. In December, the new version of Book Index with Reviews (BIR) became available. This enhanced version includes the ability to search for music and videos, as well as books. Please notice there are options on the top, right-hand corner of the limiters area. You have the option to select books, music, or video. Women’s Studies International is now available through EBSCOhost. Women's Studies International, produced by NISC, covers the core disciplines in Women’s Studies to the latest scholarship in feminist research. Coverage includes more than 548,220 records and spans from 1972 and earlier to present. This database supports curriculum development in the areas of sociology, history, political science & economy, public policy, international relations, arts & humanities, business and education. Nearly 800 essential sources include: journals, newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, books, book chapters, proceedings, reports, theses, dissertations, NGO studies, Web sites & Web documents, and grey literature. Over 2,000 periodical sources are represented. Women’s Studies International includes the following database files: Women Studies Abstracts, Women’s Studies Bibliography Database, Women’s Studies Database, Women Studies Librarian, Women of Color and Southern Women: A Bibliography of Social Science Research, and Women’s Health and Development: An Annotated Bibliography. Child Development & Adolescent Studies is now available via EBSCOhost. The Child Development & Adolescent Studies database is today's source for references to the current and historical literature related to growth and development of children through the age of 21. This database includes all of the issues of Child Development Abstracts & Bibliography from 1927 - 2001 previously published by the Society for Research in Child Development plus new coverage on Child Rights and welfare issues.
