It may be on April Fool's Day, but your health is no joke. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 is National Walking Day, an initiative sponsored by the American Heart Association to promote activity as part of a healthier lifestyle for every American.
Join TWU Student Health Services (SHS) and SHS Health Promotion on a special Walking Wednesday on the Denton campus. Wear your walking shoes and sunscreen and meet in front of the Student Union at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st for a walk around the campus from 12:30 to 1 p.m., weather permitting (in the event of rain meet at the Pioneer Hall indoor track.) Water bottles will be given to all participants.
These days we're spending more time than ever before working and sitting in front of a screen. We're becoming less active--which can increase our risk of heart disease, stroke and other diseases. On National Walking Day all Americans are encouraged to lace up their sneakers and take 30 minutes to get up and walk. Walking has many physical and mental health benefits including improved blood pressure and blood sugar levels, body weight maintenance and enhanced mental well-being. American Heart Association
