Consumer Health Alert: Lysteria

Are you tired of being told to eat your vegetables?  Now there's a reason to approach that produce with caution.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has detected potentially deadly concentrations of Listeria monocytogenes in packaged frozen fruits and vegetables produced in the U.S. and sold under a variety of labels--organic, traditional, and name and store brands. Two people are known to have died as a result of ingesting Lysteria-contaminated frozen produce, and at least seven have become ill.

A list of 358 products affected by the expanded voluntary recall issued by CRF Frozen Foods, retailed under 42 brand names, is available here. Some of the brands included are Bybee, Columbia River, Organic by Nature, Earth’s Pride, Great Value, Kirkland Signature, Parade, Safeway Kitchens, Trader Joe’s, VIP, and Wild Oats. All items were produced at the Pasco, Washington plant of CRF Frozen Foods and have a best by or sell by date range of 26 April 2016 to 26 April 2018.

Stay safe, everyone.
