A TWU Libraries librarian has made it her mission to assist TWU student veterans and military-affiliated students who may be experiencing the disorienting effects of moving from a structured military environment to college life. She can relate--because she's been there.

TWU Libraries Reference Librarian and former Army Communications Specialist Susan Whitmer, based on the Denton campus, is embedded at the TWU Veteran & Military Student Center (Denton campus, Jones Hall, rooms 106-107) on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. Whitmer—who started college within weeks of ending her time in service--appreciates the chance to be of help (from locating course assignment sources to navigating the transition from military to campus life) to this group with which she shares a very special bond.

The TWU Veteran & Military Student Centerestablished in 2014 with a donation from a local business, is housed in a quiet and comfortable two-room suite. TWU student veterans and military-affiliated students are welcome to relax in the lounge or work on their coursework in the study room equipped with computers and a printer.

The TWU Veteran & Military Student Center is open M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Away from the center, Susan can be reached at 940-898-3739 or swhitmer@twu.edu.
