A New Warning for Vapers

Are you a vaper, or do you know someone who is? A recent letter in the New England Journal of Medicine contains a warning that may save you or your friend a trip to the local burn unit.

According to the letter, e-cigarette devices are randomly and unexpectedly exploding, burning and maiming people--both e-cigarette users and those nearby. According to Dr. Elisha Brownson, the letter's lead author, these explosions are caused by the powerful lithium-ion batteries used in e-cigs. Batteries in some of the devices are overheating, causing a fire or an explosion, she said. Exploding E-Cigarettes Sending Vapers to Burn Centers

For guidance on finding articles, books, videos and more on e-cigarettes and other health-related issues--including STDs, HIV, sickle cell anemia, cancer, obesity, diabetes and many more--visit the TWU Libraries Health Studies Subject Guide. For a one-on-one research consultation on your health-related research, Librarians Elaine Cox (Denton), Eula Oliphant and Mandie Mims (Dallas), or Marilyn Goff (Houston) are available.

Anthony, Langston Hughes, Chief Joseph, Muhammad Ali . . . and many others never featured in high school textbooks." Cover, The People Speak

Reserve a Study Room in Denton, Dallas, or Houston

Are you in dire need of some peace and quiet because you’re working on a huge assignment that’s due next week? Do you need some space so you can finish up a group project with your classmates, but you’re not sure where you can go? Reserve one of the TWU Libraries study rooms!

Our libraries in Denton and Dallas, and the Houston ARC, feature study rooms that you can reserve via our Study and Conference Rooms page, or by asking for assistance from a Circulation staff member. The Denton library also features reservable conference spaces.

Each study room is different. Some have a computer, audiovisual equipment, or a whiteboard--others do not. Some have carrels, a table, or upholstered seating. To choose the room right for you or your group, peruse the room photos on the Study and Conference Rooms page under the appropriate campus tab. Each campus has its own policy on study room reservations (time limits, etc.), so make sure to check out that information as well.

Questions? Please ask a staff member or contact us another way. We’re always happy to help.
