It's Power Nap Time in Dallas & Houston

They look like something out of Star Wars or The Jetsons, but they can help with a very 21st-century problem--sleepiness.

Thanks to a collaborative effort between the Student Union, Fitness & Recreation, and Student Health Services at Texas Woman’s University, nap pods have arrived at the TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center and the TWU Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center. The pods, located in the Dallas Center Library and the Houston ARC, allow students to take a 20-minute snooze and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle an exam or coursework. A nap can be more refreshing than a cup of coffee or a can of Red Bull. Just sit back, close your eyes, and relax.

Each nap pod features a swiveling overhead cover for privacy and a dark, quiet atmosphere. Several audio options are also available. Play music from your audio player, have the nap pod “talk to you” via a meditation routine, or use the white noise setting. You can also set the chair to gently vibrate. The pod will even wake you--with gradually brightening lights and a subtle vibration to minimize grogginess--when your 20-minute nap is over. Sign. Me. Up.

The Dallas nap pod is located near the back entrance to the Dallas Center Library; find the Houston nap pod behind the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy collection in the Academic Resource Center (near the copy room). The pods are typically available on a first-come, first-served basis, but can also be reserved using the libraries’ study room reservation system.

Questions? Need assistance? Library staff members are always happy to help.
