Take a Break with Our Library Crossword

Last week the world quietly celebrated the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. The oldest and largest such tournament in the U.S., it was founded in 1978 by Will Shortz, the famous editor of the New York Times Crossword and still the tournament's director.

The Times Crossword was first published in 1942 to entertain readers during city blackouts. It was met with backlash at the time; many at the publication viewed crossword puzzles as frivolous games. It wasn’t until 1950 that the puzzle became a daily, and extremely popular, part of the newspaper.

To commemorate the 2017 American Crossword Puzzle Tournament we made our very own TWU Libraries-themed crossword puzzle for you to enjoy (printable version here). Answers can be found here.

See how well you can do--without peeking!
